How to Play Minesweeper
Objective
Clear the board by revealing all safe cells without detonating any mines. Flag every mine and uncover every safe square to win.
Controls
- Left-click — Reveal a cell.
- Right-click — Place or remove a flag on a cell you believe contains a mine.
- Left-click on a revealed number (chord) — If the correct number of adjacent flags are placed, automatically reveal all remaining neighbors.
The Numbers
Each revealed cell shows a number indicating how many of its up to 8 neighboring cells contain mines.
- A blank cell has zero mine neighbors — its neighbors are revealed automatically.
- Use the numbers to deduce which hidden cells are safe and which contain mines.
Flags
Right-click a hidden cell to place a flag (🚩) marking it as a mine. The mine counter in the header decreases with each flag placed. Right-click a flagged cell to remove the flag.
Winning & Losing
- Win — All non-mine cells are revealed.
- Lose — You click a cell containing a mine. The board reveals all mine locations.
The first click is always safe — mines are placed after your first move.

Tips
- Start near the center — it gives you more neighbors to work with.
- When a number equals the count of its hidden neighbors, all of them are mines — flag them all.
- When a number equals the count of its flagged neighbors, all remaining hidden neighbors are safe — reveal them.
- Use the chord click to quickly clear areas once flags are placed correctly.
- If you're stuck, make an educated guess in a corner or edge where probability is lower.
